The full name of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is density fiberboard, which is made of wood fiber or other plant fibers, prepared by fiber, applied with synthetic resin, and pressed under heating and pressurizing conditions.

According to its density, it can be divided into high-density fiberboard, medium-density fiberboard and low-density fiberboard. Among them, the nominal density of MDF fiberboard ranges from 650Kg/m³ to 800Kg/m³

Due to its uniform structure, fine material, stable performance, impact resistance and easy processing, MDF is widely used in domestic furniture, decoration, musical instruments and packaging.

According to the density, it can be divided into: high-density fiberboard, medium-density fiberboard, low-density fiberboard (medium-density fiberboard density is 650 kg/m3-800 kg/m3, high-density fiberboard density is ≥800 kg/m3).

The national standard (GB/T 11718-2009) is divided into: ordinary medium density fiberboard, furniture type medium density fiberboard and load-bearing medium density fiberboard.

According to the purpose, it can be divided into: furniture board, floor base material, door base material, electronic circuit board, milling board, moisture-proof board, fire-proof board and line board, etc.

Commonly used format sizes are 1220mm*2440mm and 1830mm*2440mm.

The main thicknesses are: 1mm, 2.4mm, 2.7mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 4.7mm, 6mm, 8mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 22mm, 25mm, 30mm.

Advantages of mdf board

1. Uniform internal structure, moderate density, good dimensional stability, small deformation, and moderate physical and mechanical properties.

2. The surface is flat and smooth, and the machining performance is good. It can be pasted with sliced thin wood, patterns and new and beautiful decorative paper. Therefore, it is popular in home decoration and is often used to make furniture, partitions, etc.

         3. After punching and drilling, the rigid density board can also be made into sound-absorbing board, which can be used in architectural decoration engineering.

         4.  Excellent physical properties, uniform material, no dehydration problem.

Comparison between MDF board and Solid wood

  • Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a high-grade composite material that outperforms solid wood in many areas. Made of recycled wood fiber and resin, the MDF is machine-dried and pressed into a dense and stable sheet.

  • Solid wood has many advantages, it is strong and beautiful. However, when exposed to heat and humidity changes, solid wood will shrink. Unless these conditions are carefully controlled, cabinets, doors or panels made of solid wood may shrink, crack or jam.

  • MDF is more stable than solid wood and can better adapt to changes in heat and humidity. When the temperature and humidity rise and fall, solid wood panels usually expand and contract horizontally and vertically. Therefore, cabinets, doors and panels made of solid wood require a high degree of care and maintenance.
